Wine Job Report

 

Figures released from a leading wine industry job report show the wine industry is hiring  


According to winejobs.com, the number of job postings has steadily increased over the past year, comparing April 2011 to 2010 and has shown growth from 2009 by as much as 50% to nearly 90% in some areas.  The report looked at job postings categorized by wine retailers, distributors and wineries.

 

In what areas of the industry are the most job postings?  

Overall, wine retailers showed the biggest increase with postings being up 30% from 2010 (87% higher than 2009).  Followed by wineries with 15% more job postings since last year (82% higher than 2009).  And finally wine distributor jobs.  While distributor postings showed a 51% increase since 2009, postings have only increased moderately at 3% from 2010.

The most significant increase was in winery hospitality jobs.  Postings were up 126% this April compared to last year (and 214% from 2009).  Other areas in the winery category including winemaking which remained unchanged and sales and marketing which actually decreased by 45% from 2010 but shows that postings for this year were 50% above their levels in 2009.


What does this mean for job seekers?

The wine industry is still looking for qualified people.  Those who stand out from the pack of job candidates will surely be those with wine training, certification, passion and some experience on their resumes.  This is a perfect time to dust off the resume and get the training and skills you need to land a job in the wine industry.
